Ask me anything
In just five minutes, Northwestern is shutting down for the next three days - no electricity, no water, no nitrogen, no vacuum, etc. No lab work for three days! A much needed vacation for me.
This has got to be the most stressful pre-finals/finals week I’ve gone through in a couple years: graduate students here don’t get a dead week without classes/new material being taught, and I have three finals on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday next week. Add to that the demands of my bosses, who seem to completely disregard the fact that we have finals next week and seem to be sabotaging our studying time on purpose, and I have my work cut out for me. Annoying things that I’m required to do keep popping up, like lab clean up for my group and grading lab finals tomorrow, plus going to a group holiday party that involves secret Santa and karaoke the night before I need to wake up at 6:30 AM to catch a flight. (Honestly, I am only going to end up getting a gift that I have absolutely no use for, which is just wasteful of resources. And karaoke? Really? I am pretty sure that we are all going to sound terrible….) Oh, and I forgot to add that I’m also applying for the NDSEG fellowship due next week. I’m done with all of this crap that is preventing me from studying, and I’m going to do what it takes to get those A’s.
School is out and break has officially started for me….for everyone who’s still in class, here’s to a quick finish and a safe trip home. I’ll be spending my Thanksgiving vacation studying (and looking good doing it), and of course, waking up early to head to the city for some Black Friday fun…..at the top of my list of shops to hit are H&M, Hollister, and Zara. Happy Thanksgiving and happy shopping! (Just stay away from Walmart, seriously)
Advisor assignments came out today, and I’m formally part of a group! I’m going to be working for this professor for the next 4-5 years, so I hope I made the right decision.
Dear Building next to my apartment that is doing construction:
Thanks for causing all the water in my building to be shut off due to that construction; why would this cause the water to be shut off in the first place?! I now have to walk two blocks to the library whenever I need to use the bathroom (thank goodness for public libraries). Also, thanks for being so upfront and honest about how long this is going to last. You said we’d have the water back at 10:30 AM - it’s now 12PM and there is no sign that anything is being accomplished. In fact, there are hundreds of gallons of water just pouring out of fire hydrants up and down the block: the environment thanks you for being so wasteful. Thanks again for making me worry about how I’m going to shower tonight, and don’t make me go up to a construction worker and angrily demand to get our water back.
Hoping you get the karma you deserve,
An extremely annoyed student
I love how the design is so simple and sleek, yet immediately catches your eye. Each component is very ordinary, but together, they are something else ~
The Maison Martin Margiela H&M collection hits stores tomorrow…..this is the only thing I’d want, but given the price tag, I’ll just have to live without them!
